The Böcklin archives were donated to the museum by Dr. h.c. Hans Holenweg, and he continues to enlarge and run them.

The archives contain all the literature published on the life and work of Arnold Böcklin (monographs, exhibition catalogs, magazine and newspaper articles), files covering the work on all paintings and drawings, but also material collections on students, teachers, friends, biographers and critics of Arnold Böcklin, and on the artistic reception of his works.

The archives incorporate the Böcklin archives of Prof. Dr. Heinrich Alfred Schmid.

The archives are accessible to anyone interested in Böcklin research following consultation with Dr. Hans Holenweg; however, the holdings can only be used in the library reading room.
