The new extensionThe extension to the Kunstmuseum will provide urgently needed space for special exhibitions. It will also enable the museum to present valuable works from the public art collection in a contemporary setting. From a prestigious group of international participants, the jury chose the project submitted by Christ & Gantenbein Architects with Peter Stocker AG as the general contractor. Opening is planned for 2016. An extension to the Kunstmuseum is urgently required. In addition to its key function as a venue for special exhibitions, the additional space provided by the extension will also be used for temporary showings of exhibits from the world-famous collection which can hardly ever be viewed today due to space restrictions. Signature features of the project include the spacious, attractive link between the old and new building under Dufourstrasse, the versatile foyer and additional storage areas in the basements for the ever- growing public art collection.  |
