Caspar Wolf
and the aesthetic conquest of nature

Curator: Bodo Brinkmann

Caspar Wolf, The Dala Gorge, Looking Downriver, ca. 1774/77, Valais Art Museum, Sion

His radical formulations of Alpine landscape well beyond the sphere of Baroque idyll make the Swiss painter Caspar Wolf (1735-1783) one of the most important precursors of European Romanticism. This exhibition is showing 110 works by him and by artists who influenced him.
